About Us

Rato Bangala School Model United Nations (RBSMUN), since its inception in 2005, has been a platform for enthusiastic students from Nepal and beyond to think, learn, discover and grow. When she organized the first RBSMUN, our Principal, Miss Milan Dixit, believed that bringing Model UN to Rato Bangala School and Nepal would be effective in driving students towards intellectual, social and cognitive growth. Over a decade since, RBSMUN has been held annually and gained prominence for being one of the finest MUN conferences in the country. It has evolved from an in-school activity to an interschool conference to, now, an international conference with a promise of excellence. In Model UN conferences, students are pushed beyond the four walls of classrooms and the finite pages of books. Representing countries from all over the world as UN Diplomats, students tackle complex issues from regional conflicts to environmental problems; and in this process, developing an invaluable understanding of issues which shape our world.

Over the years, RBSMUN has created generations of thoughtful citizens who care for people’s sufferings, and care enough to take steps towards a shared future of peace. This year, we hope to continue our precedent of inspiring change. Providing a place for all enthusiastic students to develop their passion and to share their ideas, we strive for a change that is roused. Believing that the future needs knowledgeable and dutiful global citizens, RBSMUN provides an opportunity to learn about the word events; to understand its causes, dimensions, and implications; to build a conscious opinion about our political, economic, natural and social status quo; to articulate those stances; to persuade; to bring change; it’s an opportunity for all. Each year, we host a new group of growing debaters, and every year they emerge at the end of the conference intrigued, impassioned and ready to tackle the world in their hands. In this chapter of RBSMUN, we will continue the tradition of excellence, the inspiration of growth, the enlightenment of perspective. Join us this December to witness the world of RBS Model UN come to life, and change yours with it.

From The Principal

Milan Dixit

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the twentieth edition of the Rato Bangala School Model United Nations. Our student-led conference is a platform that fosters thoughtful dialogue, diplomacy, and awareness of local and global issues. Thanks to the commitment and creativity of our executive committee, we anticipate another memorable RBS-MUN experience. The very essence of MUN lies in its commitment to peace, justice, human rights, and responsible leadership. Through simulations and debate, students sharpen skills in negotiation, critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration, which are essential tools for navigating and addressing the complexities of the world today.
The important theme selected by our executive committee for the conference this year is Conflict Prevention and Peace Building. In a rapidly evolving global landscape, committees will dive deep into a wide spectrum of issues: from the environmental cost of AI and the exploitation of child soldiers, to the fragility of economies in conflict zones and the suppression of peaceful protest. The agenda also invites reflection on historical conflicts, the influence of non-state actors, and geopolitical power shifts. Importantly, the inclusion of Nepal-focused topics, such as transitional justice, democratic evolution, and governance, adds a valuable local dimension and national relevance.
Since its inception in 2005, RBSMUN has built a tradition of excellence in the quality, depth, and diversity of its simulations. I am confident that this year’s organising team, led by Secretary-General Aditya Raj and Deputy Secretary-Generals Lavanya Nepal and Aakarsh Shrestha, will carry that legacy forward with distinction.
To all delegates, those from Rato Bangala and beyond, I extend a warm welcome. May this conference inspire you to think critically, develop cognitive flexibility, respect diversity and collaborate meaningfully.
Best wishes for an exciting, thought-provoking and successful RBSMUN 2025.
