ECOFIN (Economic and Financial Committee) is regarded as a critical organ of the United Nations. The committee was formally established in 1945 as one of the first general assemblies. The committee is responsible for regulating financial policies, capital movements, taxation matters, and economic relations on a global scale. Ecofin is a vital platform for member states to collaborate on economic and financial matters to achieve a more stable and equitable global economy. The conferences of the ECOFIN serves as a forum for addressing the economic challenges faced by conflict affected regions. Fragility in a nation is the combination of exposure to risks - such as political instability (e.g., corruption, weak governance), economic shocks (eg; inflation, debt), armed conflict and insufficient coping ability of a nation or state to manage, absorb or recover from these pressures due to weak institutions, poor infrastructure, or lack of resources. The agenda for ECOFIN for RBS MUN 2025 is “Addressing economic fragility in conflict affected regions” this agenda analyses the destruction caused by such conflict, how it has impacted the economy of that country/region and debates what is the best possible way to recover from the externality caused by the conflict. The impact of such conflict encompasses the destruction of infrastructure, disruption of trade, and collapse of economies of a region. The conference discusses the impact of sanctions, inflation, refugee and foreign investment, and currency devaluation on such fragile regions.
