About the Committee
Agenda: Prosecuting the Exploitation of Child Soldiers and Blood Diamonds in Sierra Leone.
Committee Email: scsl@ratobangala.edu.np
The Special Court of Sierra Leone, 2007, is a simulation of the historic tribunal established to rule on war crimes committed during the Sierra Leonean Civil War. Set on June 4, 2007, the committee requires delegates to deliberate on the prosecution of Charles Taylor, accused of aiding and abetting the recruitment of child soldiers and profiting from blood diamonds during the civil war. Unlike ordinary MUN committees, SCSL functions differently: SCSL mirrors the structure of an actual courtroom where delegates will not represent nations, but will instead assume the role of prosecutors, defence attorneys or judges. Leveraging their assigned allocations, delegates will have to formulate cogent, legal arguments based on real-life evidence and strategically twist interpretations to gain the upper hand. In SCSL, you will advocate, interrogate and litigate in order to bring justice for those who endured unfathomable cruelty and exploitation in one of the most devastating civil wars in West Africa.
The Executive Board
Chair
Smaranika Shakya
Smaranika Shakya may look like a cute, lovable, and sweet person (and she is), but once you hear her debate, you will realize that behind that sweet smile is someone fiercely intelligent with enough conviction and confidence to make you question your own beliefs. Her ability to think critically about everything and communicate her opinions masterfully through speech or writing are what set her apart as a debater.
Outside of a debate room, Smaranika is a rather goofy intellectual. Somehow, she is good at everything. And I mean everything. Studies, sports, personality—she’s got it all in her bag, though her puzzling sense of humor will always leave you confused (it’s part of the charm).
And as a chair, Smaranika is a supportive mentor who will give you all the help you need to succeed. She gives 100% to everything she does, whether it’s an assignment, an exam, a debate, or being a chair. You are in good hands in her committee.
Vice-Chair
Shivashis Adhikari
Shivashis is one of those people who can make everyone laugh, but never at anyone’s expense. He knows how to keep things light and make people feel comfortable. He is easy to get along with, friendly with pretty much everyone, and somehow manages to find something in common with anyone he meets.
He will happily throw himself into almost anything, as long as it’s not studying. But if you watch closely, you’ll see how much he enjoys being in a kitchen baking or cooking something, scribbling down poetry, designing things, coding, or just enjoying good and delicious food. And when it comes to computers, he really knows his way around.
Shivashis has a rare mix of humor, warmth, and curiosity that makes it easy and fun to be around him.

What makes her stand out is that she genuinely listens to everyone’s opinions, makes people feel heard, and somehow always gives the best of advice. She’s incredibly talkative and endlessly cheerful and naturally becomes the life of any party with her stories, jokes, and infectious laughter. Everything Nischita does, whether it’s lending a helping hand, offering words of encouragement, or simply showing up with a warm smile and good vibes, she does from the heart.
