Agenda:  Energy Demand of AI Data Centers for Operational Power

Committee Email: unep@ratobangala.edu.np

AI data centers are special facilities built to support the huge computing needs of artificial intelligence. As AI becomes more powerful and widely used, regular data centers can no longer keep up. AI data centers are designed to handle the heavy workloads, large data storage, and cooling requirements needed to train and run AI models efficiently. The committee will focus on the growing environmental toll of artificial intelligence, specially the massive energy demands of AI data centers. These centers contribute to significant carbon emissions, strain water resources for cooling, generate large amounts of e-waste, and leave behind a heavy environmental footprint. The committee will also address the lack of global green standards when it comes to AI and the responsibility of high-emission countries and corporations in ensuring AI development does not come at the cost of environmental sustainability. On one hand the energy consumed by AI data centers has detrimental effects on our planet’s health, on the other hand, there are discussions that use of AI technology is crucial in forming mechanisms to tackle climate change itself. Delegates are expected to find a balance between these realities and come up with systems that are globally applicable.

The Executive Board

Chair

Shambhavi Khadka

There’s a quiet calm about Shambhavi, the kind that settles into a room without asking for attention. She sips her coffee not just for the caffeine, but as a ritual of sorts, with each cup keeping her going like the earthy aroma that lingers long after a rain. The peace she finds in a hot drinkt mirrors the fresh, grounded calm she finds in nature and the sky. She's adept, focused, and intentional in all she does and says. Though she may come across as shy and reserved, she is strikingly commanding and articulate in the heat of a debate (or when she's talking to someone she's close to). The volume and number of arguments reach their peak with her friends. Despite her aloofness, Shambhavi traverses the world like a living poem, subtle in rhythm, profound in meaning. She reads people the way she reads verses: she senses the pauses and has enough insight to read through the quiet emotions tucked between lines. Her affection pours out from her heart in soft stanzas, shaped by the poems she loves to read and write, expressed through small, thoughtful acts that linger like the last line of a good verse. So if you find yourself in the committee chaired by Shambhavi, know this: you’re in for a session that's brewed strong, layered with weird humor, and topped with a level of competition that can get downright intense. A paradox in the best way, the kind of person who leaves a little more light in every room she walks out of, that's Shambhavi.

Vice-Chair

Prakrish Acharya

Prakrish is a chill, curious guy who’s all about diving deep into math problems, exploring political debates, and occasionally dropping random facts no one asked for. He’s the type to casually solve equations for fun, argue policy like it's a sport, and still find time to vibe with music. Basically, he's your friendly neighborhood overthinker with a calculator and a cause.

Moderator

Nidi Shrestha

Nidi may seem like the quiet one in the room--reserved, observant, and wrapped in calm composure. But let the silence fool you, and you’ll miss the storm of ideas, energy, and wit that lies just beneath. An introvert by nature, yes but hand her the right people, the right space, or a passionate debate topic, and she lights up like a match to kindling. She’s the kind of person who puts people at ease: approachable, quick to laugh, and always listening more than she speaks. And for those lucky enough to break through her carefully guarded walls? You’ll find someone warm, hilarious, fiercely loyal, and just a little bit chaotic in the best way. As the moderator, Nidi brings a quiet strength to the committee, someone who leads not with volume, but with clarity. She's not the loudest voice, but often the most grounded. She watches, she listens, and when she speaks, it’s with impact. With her as your moderator, expect a committee that’s calm on the surface, electric underneath, and unforgettable all the way through. If you ever need help with anything, she’ll always be there to lend a hand.
