Agenda:  Preserving Human Rights Amid Peaceful Protests (Present day information can be pulled from any time period) university discussions

Committee Email: unhcr@ratobangala.edu.np

With the rise in protests across the globe many citizens have fallen victim to violent outbursts from both the state and other protest groups. Protests are the rudimentary means of the public to communicate their need for change. The actions of opposing groups, state parties or even social media groups may bar the path to productive debate and eliminate the choice of freedom of speech. The RBSMUN United Nations Human Rights Council this year, will be deliberating on the mass violations carried out by numerous nations under the pretext of maintaining social order. This agenda is a unique one as it shifts the focus from a typical, broad international issue towards internal affairs of each country, questioning their decisions and holding them accountable for deeds that might otherwise be blindsided. The delegates must cleverly navigate the balance between advocacy and accountability as they present their cases; they must invent ways to promote protection of civil liberties and must not directly condemn their own government for their controversial actions. They must find ways to ally with each other while not excusing or encouraging violent actions. How will they find the right allies to trust? How will they defend their country when the finger is pointed at them? And how will they ensure they are able to build a better world for all of us? The RBSMUN UNHRC Committee this year, is sure to be brimming with anticipation, tension, wits and strategy. So delegates, be prepared to become world leaders, entice change and engage in immersive debate to reset the status quo for peace.

The Executive Board

Chair

Kritisha Amatya

If you think you know what Kritisha is going to say, you are very much mistaken. You will never catch her in a boring conversation and if you do, just assume that her social battery has run out (and that chocolate can make it better). The loudest one among her friends and someone who always sports a smile, she is definitely the one with the lion’s share of soliloquies on her notes app. There is a certainty to her charm and a particularity to her style. And you will never truly know her until she allows you to read her poetry (but don’t bother asking because it’s probably locked away in a tower guarded by a dragon). A fan of everything fictional and often lost in her own world, Kritisha goes above and beyond for the people she cherishes. Always on time and ready with a last-minute creative project, she is a person of multiple hobbies. From art to crochet to volleyball to reading quietly in a corner, she does it all. A fierce friend and a dedicated leader, she is a published poet-perfectionist who procrastinates and yet always seems to be busy.

Vice-Chair

Saksham Gurung

Saksham is the kind of vice-chair who brings order and energy to the committee room. Witty, thoughtful, and comfortably informal, he's renowned for breaking the tension without ever compromising seriousness. Whether he's guiding a tricky motion or working in a joke to put people at ease, Saksham finds that rare balance between planning and spontaneity. Ever-prepared and silently watchful, he knows when to let discussions run and when to step in with a gentle prod that puts matters back on track. Delegates soon find that under his serene facade lies a sharp mind, a resolute hand, and a remarkably wide understanding of make-believe political intrigues, courtesy of his manhwa addiction. He's not just there to vice-chair; he's there to enhance the experience. With Saksham on the podium, expect a committee that is smooth and creative and might even crack a few jokes between clauses. For Saksham, effective diplomacy isn't just about rules and solutions; it's about making the process valuable, memorable, and fun. Skibidi signing off.

Moderator

Paridhi Maharjan

Paridhi is the kind of girl who shows up to committee with her eyeliner sharp, nails done, outfit on point and still somehow manages to outshine her appearance with her personality. Bubbly, outspoken, and effortlessly sweet, she’s the kind of moderator who’ll call for decorum one moment and hype up a delegate’s speech the next (with her signature smile, of course). She’s never afraid to speak her mind—never—and she’ll take a stand for what’s right, whether it’s in a heated committee session or in defense of a friend. A girls’ girl through and through, Paridhi is both your biggest cheerleader and your softest landing, switching from fierce advocate to comforting presence with ease. She’s the kind of person who’ll help you fix your resolution draft, offer feedback on your speech and compliment your eyeliner, all in one snack break. But don’t let the sweet voice and cute energy fool you, Paridhi’s pen is powerful, her words persuasive, and her presence impossible to ignore. With writing skills that could pass as policy and sass sharp enough to cut through the most chaotic of unmoderated caucuses, she brings heart, flair, and organization to the room. This may be her first time moderating, but trust us, you won’t be able to tell. She’s already commanding the room with style, confidence, and just the right amount of glitter.
